Kato Seisakusho Manhattan Model Celluloid - F/M Schmidt [B/C for vintage age, but truly could be A2 for the condition]

This rare little piece of Japanese penmaking mastery is from Kiyoshi Kato of Kato Seisakusho & Co., who later passed his knowledge and skillset to his apprentice, Mr. Onishi, who took over the business when Mr. Kato passed away in 2009. There’s more info out there than there used to be about this amazing pen maker, and there is an impressive video on YouTube showing the master at work. Fun fact: He also did some work for Visconti, and which is likely why this celluloid looks familiar!

This pen is in incredible condition and there are no scratches, scuffs, or flaws of any kind on the celluloid, trim, or finials. The nib is a gold-plated, stainless steel Schmidt (what he typically used - 14K nibs were few and far between). The feed can take a universal converter and cartridge - but I have not found a converter that both fits the feed and is is slim enough for the barrel.  Nonetheless, a universal cartridge has no problem fitting. I’ve felt nothing like this pen in the hand and the nib writes like no other Schmidt nib today.  This is an incredible example of the work of an icon; the fact that it’s in pristine condition is just icing on the cake! $385
