Hello r/WatchExchange,

I'm a first-time seller, so please let me know if either I'm doing any of this wrong. Happy to DM, call, video chat, whatever. I'm selling a nearly unworn 1996 Rolex Air-King in excellent condition. I think this a fairly rare piece due to its condition.

  • Dial: Replaced with OEM Super-LumiNova silver dial (original dial had a cosmetic flaw)

  • Service: Full overhaul completed in 2025 (receipt and warranty card included)
  • Includes: Inner/outer box, booklets, original warranty paper, service docs, new warranty NFC card

Brief story time. My MIL bought this watch for an ex boyfriend in 1996. They split shortly after, but he willed the watch back to her and she just recently received it from his estate. According to his family, he never wore it, it just sat in a drawer. The condition of the watch reflects that. The only blemish is a small scratch at the micro adjust point on the clasp. Otherwise, this looks like it could be under the glass at an AD. There's not much sentimental value in the watch itself, so we'd really just like to get it to someone who will enjoy and wear it.

Because it hadn't been wound in almost 30 years, I took it to Ben Bridge and had them do an overhaul. It was the same location where the watch was bought, and one of the older saleswomen even knew who made the original sale based on her handwriting. How's that for provenance? Anyway, I figured the lubrication was all dried up and didn't want to risk damaging it. Spent $1k on the service. They tuned it all up and suggested I replace the dial and hands with modern/Super-Luminova parts because the dial had a single brown stain on it. I agreed to that, because IMO it could hardly be considered "patina" — it was one small splotch that was really conspicuous. In hindsight, I get that purists might cringe, but I think that some folks looking for a practical, neo-vintage piece will appreciate the upgrade.

I'm asking $5,950 shipped, OBO. I will ship fully insured via USPS Registered Mail or FedEx (signature required). I'm not interested in trades. I can meet up in the Portland, Oregon area. PM with questions. Thanks for looking.
