The Pitch

These travelers notebooks are made of Pueblo leather from Baldalassi Carlo Tannery in Italy. Full vegetable tan, dyed, and tumbled for a unique finish. In time, the finish will fade into a uniform color. This is really top-notch leather with a firm feel and quality finish. I think these leathers are the perfect temper for travelers notebooks as they don’t have too much flop (that’s definitely an official technical term) and will break-in nicely over years of use. This is a premium, well-loved, and well-known leather among enthusiasts.

Yes - there are a lot of travelers notebooks out there. The Travelers standard, Chic Sparrow, Luis Carmen, Etsy specials. I’ll highlight some of the things I do just a bit differently than the others. Most notably, I do a three panel design like a trifold wallet. We tend to stuff these notebooks full of things, so the three panel design limits the amount of things that creep out of the edges. As they fill up, the flaps will “shrink” upwards but they won’t make the notebook look out of proportion.

There is only one row of eyelets. It’s a personal preference, but I just like the look. I will concede that the functionality of having two or three sets is nice, but I prefer using the extra loop of elastic method to get three notebooks in there. The eyelets are solid brass, not hollow core, and securely set.

I stitch in one pocket on the right, and it’s not underneath a surface that you write on. I find that travelers notebooks are a bit fiddly with writing surface bumps, so I think minimizing what’s underneath your writing surface is best. That said, I still stuff mine to the brim with stuff so maybe it’s a lost cause.

There are a few choices in elastic colors. If you want to swap, please reference the very last picture in the post and let me know which color you want. I’m happy to make the switch if there is enough material. These are all sized for standard travelers notebook inserts and accessories and will come with an extra elastic strap.

If you’re in the market for an upmarket travelers notebook, I truly believe these will compete with some of the choice offerings out there. Thanks for considering.

The Products

Olmo Pueblo (Cognac/Orange) Travelers Standard

Price: $90. Price includes USPS priority mail shipping. CONUS only.

Condition: New [N]

Description: This is probably my favorite piece I’ve made in a long time. I considered not selling it and using it myself, but my broken down old travelers notebook was giving me evil glares from the corner (you’ll see that I used it to write the timestamp). The eyelets are solid brass in a natural finish. The thread is Maine Thread Co. and color matched to the leather. This size is just about perfect. I think 2 to 3 notebooks fit well in here. Pictures are taken with inserts and accessories to show their use, but are not included in the sale of the notebook cover.

Sapphire Pueblo (Navy) Travelers Standard

Price: $90. Price includes USPS priority mail shipping. CONUS only.

Condition: New [N]

Description: This one is a little bit bigger than the Olmo notebook. I think this is best suited for 3 notebooks or if you have the proclivity to really put a lot of things into the notebook. The eyelets are solid brass in an antiqued finish. The thread is Ritza Tiger and color matched to the leather. Pictures are taken with inserts and accessories to show their use, but are not included in the sale of the notebook cover.

The Boilerplate

All items are made by me using full grain leather, thread, glue, and wax. Everything is cut and saddle stitched by hand. Leather is a beautiful and durable material and each piece is unique. With full grain leather products, both vegetable and chrome tanned, there will be natural variation in the leather as well as imperfections such as wrinkles, bug bites, and branding scars. I do my best to highlight the major areas in the pictures but know that you are purchasing a natural product with plenty of variation from piece to piece. Also, leather patinas. It wears in. It picks up scratches and softens and shows character as it ages. These aren’t pristine pieces and they show their use well.

I am selling items at a discount as I build up trade confirmations and good will on Pen_Swap. Payment is per Paypal G&S as per subreddit rules. Sales are within the CONUS only, for now. I will be selling online under the name Oliver Henry Leather & Pen in the near future. My name is neither Oliver nor Henry. Those names are the middle names of my kiddos. I’m Brian. Hi!
