Selling this beautiful vintage IWC piece with solid platinum case and caliber 853 automatic movement. The interesting thing about the case, other than platinum being the rarest precious metal used in watches, is that during this time period import duties were very high on platinum. So IWC contracted with their distributor in Japan, Isomura, to manufacture the case and shipped the incomplete watches to Japan for final assembly as Japanese domestic market (JDM) watches. These watches are denoted with a small Japanese flag on the inside of the caseback, and are very rare in platinum.

This is about the largest version of a vintage platinum IWC that I’ve come across, with a case measuring 35mm wide with a 43mm lug to lug length. It’s 10.1mm thick including the crystal, with 18mm lug width. Given the large dial area, elongated lugs, and highly polished platinum it has a ton of presence on the wrist. Wrist shot on my ~6.75" wrist provided for reference on the sizing and how it wears.

Movement serial dates this to 1960, the movement has been running at minus a few seconds a day for me, and winds and sets smoothly.
